1. Prior to hanging, doors should be stored flat, in a dry, well ventilated room in conditions as near as possible to those that they will experience in normal use. Doors should not be fitted where extremes of temperature or humidity may occur, for example in a new building where heaters may be used to dry out rooms, or where heating systems are being tested. Doors should be left ajar to allow heat to equalise on both sides of the door. Timber is a natural product that reacts to natural changes in humidity. In new build situations the doors should be fitted only when the property is ready for final decoration.
2. For primed or unfinished doors remember to seal both faces & all four edges. This decoration should be completed within seven days. Failure to do so may result in the door warping. For pre-finished or pre-painted doors only the 4 edges require finishing. If this door requires finishing after trimming or hanging the door, it is recommended that all edges should be sealed again using the same decoration method.
3. All sanded and planed surfaces should be sealed using either a primer for moulded doors or clear lacquer for engineered timber doors prior to hanging the door. Doors may be trimmed by planing or sanding to a maximum of 6mm from the bottom and 4mm from each long edge. Tops of doors are not recommended to be trimmed & Fire doors must NEVER be trimmed at the top as this will remove all manufacturing & fire certification identifications. If in any doubt refer to our Technical Department on 0845 122 2890.
4. Doors should be hung on one pair of 3" (76mm) hinges. Fit 3 hinges to glazed, moulded heavyweight & fire doors or where large differences of temperature or humidity may occur such as bathrooms.
5. When hanging a standard core moulded or flush door, pay special attention to the position and size of the lock block. This is a reinforced area approximately 320mm high and 60mm wide, located halfway down the door against one edge. The word 'lock' appears on the top edge of the door to show which edge. This does not apply to middleweight moulded, heavyweight moulded or engineered timber doors in this case the hardware can be positioned at any height on either side of the door.
6.Routine maintenance for cleaning should be carried out using a soft cloth and a mild cleansing agent. Abrasive household cleaning materials must not be used.
