CHOOSE THE PERFECT PATIO FOR YOUR HOME

With so many different patio doors available on the market, it can be difficult finding the perfect door to suit your home.  Here, Joanne Garside, Product Manager at JELD-WEN, gives five tips on choosing the style of patio that is right for you.

1.  Do you want a door that means you can open up the whole of your living space?

It’s little wonder that folding sliding patio doors have become the best seller in the market, as they allow for unrestricted access to the outdoors and maximise the amount of light in a room.  They are also right on trend and one of the most popular choices is the Canberra patio door.  This is a luxurious timber door from our range, which is available in solid oak laminate that adds style and elegance to any property.  This type of patio door is perfect if you want to open up the whole of the living area, as the doors can be folded back concertina-style, removing the barrier between indoors and out.   These doors are perfect for the larger living area, with choices to suit all sizes of home from two to six door options.

2.  Fully finished or wood-effect?

It is important to consider whether you are looking for a fully finished (painted) patio door or a natural timber effect, as this can affect the choice available to you.  If your home features natural timber furnishings or timber-effect floorcoverings, the best choice may be an oak patio door – such as the Oak Canberra, or the Smoothfold or Oakfold folding sliding doorsets.

However, if you are looking to co-ordinate with white, or other colour, windows, then a fully finished patio doorset, such as the Wellington folding sliding doorset may be the perfect option.   We offer a range of colour choices within our patio doors to offer low maintenance and a superior appearance.

3.  No home is too small for a patio door!

If space is restricted in a room, don’t rule out patio living completely as a sliding doorset could be the answer. The Fenton sliding doorset saves floor space, lets in plenty of natural light and comes with the handy choice of a single or double sliding door and left-hand, right-hand or double openings.   It includes the option of triple glazing or double glazing, with Low-E glass as standard, which means there is no need to compromise on thermal performance when introducing more natural light into a property.

This patio door is manufactured from highly engineered softwood and is available with a wide choice of Hi-Build factory finishes, including dusky grey or white to suit buyer’s tastes.   It really does offer the perfect answer for anyone with a smaller living area, but who wants to make the most of available space and have easier access to the garden.

4.Classic style

If your home features a classic, rather than contemporary, style you may prefer a French doorset.  To meet customer demand, we have recently launched our popular Canberra and Wellington ranges as French doors.  Both of these patio doors exude classic style and create a light, airy living space in the home.    The premium product is the Oak Canberra, which is manufactured from FSC laminated solid oak, with brushed stainless steel or polished titanium gold finish handles.   The Wellington French door is supplied as a fully finished product, which provides an enhanced appearance and superior performance.

We recently added a French door version to the Canberra range, which means that homeowners can enjoy the benefits of both folding sliding patio doors with a co-ordinating effect through a complementary French door.

5. Create your own patio door!

Even with such a wide choice available to you in patio doors, you may prefer to design your own dream doorset.  If so, the Farndale could be the perfect choice.

Manufactured from highly engineered softwood and with slim timber sections to maximise the glazed area, the Farndale offers a wide range of options.  This includes a single or double doorset and a choice of sidelights or a top fixed fanlight above the door.  Also, for customers looking to maximise the amount of light in their home, these doors are available full height glazed.   Options on the Farndale include mid rails, as well as raised and fielded bottom panels for added detail and distinctiveness.  For buyers living in conservation areas, a conservation fret is available as an option on this stunning doorset design, which provides authentic styling to a classic home or country cottage.

All Farndale doorsets are fully compliant with Part L Building Regulations and buyers have the opportunity to upgrade from the standard 28mm insulated glazing units with Low-E glass to triple glazing that further enhances thermal performance and helps reduce energy bills.

If you decide you want a fully finished Farndale doorset, then  you could take advantage of JELD-WEN’s Hi-Build paint and stain finishes, which ensure the Farndale retains its appearance for many years.
